CUTTLEFISH

A Unique Wildlife Event – The Whyalla Giant Cuttlefish Aggregation

In winter the Industrial town of Whyalla comes to life – not the city itself so much per se, but the ocean waters at its feet. Crisp, still winter nights and cooling water temperatures bring life to its shores with one of the most unique and beautiful of natures events - that of the Giant Cuttlefish Aggregation. Here thousands of Australian Giant Cuttlefish come to court, mate and lay their eggs - and ultimately die. This happens nowhere else on the planet and it must be seen to be believed. Dive or snorkel will allow you to get up close and personal and witness the kaleidoscope of colours and behaviours of these intelligent creatures of the deep.
